Umbria Jazz (July)

Umbria Jazz first edition took place in 1973. In the Seventies the concerts were free, organized on public places in various towns of Umbria: Perugia, Todi, Gubbio, Spoleto.

In those years jazz music was mainly appreciated by connoisseurs, but the festival won an increasing audience.

Among the many artists that took part to the concerts in the Seventies there were George Coleman, Art Blakey, Dizzy Gillespie, Chet Baker, Stan Getz, Lionel Hampton.

In the Eighties Umbria Jazz Association and then Umbria Jazz Foundation were established.

The concerts took place mainly in Perugia with artists like Sonny Rollins, Randy Crawford, Michel Petrucciani, Phil Collins, Al Jarreau, Keith Jarrett, Ornette Coleman, Van Morrison, Bobby McFerrin, Earth Wind & Fire, James Brown, Manhattan Transfer, Sarah Vaughan, Caetano Veloso, Gil Evans, Carmen McRae, Miles Davis and many others.

Different styles like rock, blues, brasilian song, gospel, soul, zydeco, marching band, rhythm 'n' blues made their entry to the jazz festival.

Now we have admission tickets to Arena Santa Giuliana (the former stadium next to the city walls), to Teatro Comunale Morlacchi and to Oratorio di Santa Cecilia. We have also free concerts in variuos places, streets and squares of the historic centre.

Eurochocolate (October)

The first edition of Eurochocolate took place in Perugia in 1994. Every year - in October - the event celebrates the chocolate tradition of Perugia, Italy and other countries.

Eurochocolate attracts a lot of tourists that love chocolate, the so called "food of gods". It is possible to taste the best industrial and artisan chocolate products sold on stalls placed along the streets of the historic centre of Perugia.

Beside the market, a lot of events and shows take place in charming settings like Rocca Paolina (a Reinassance Fortress).
